There is something ancient and powerful about the sea โ and Bader Al Kanderi has always felt its pull.
At 24, Bader has Down syndrome and a dream as vast as the ocean itself: to be a ship captain. To stand at the helm, to read the water, to feel the weight of a vessel responding to your hand.
Omnia arranged what most would consider impossible. We took Bader to a real ship, where a real captain welcomed him not as a passenger, but as a student and fellow man of the sea.
The captain walked Bader through everything โ the instruments, the navigation, the feel of the wheel. And then, with the shore still visible and the water open ahead, he stepped aside and let Bader sail.
In that moment, the sea did not care about diagnoses or limitations. It responded as it always does โ to the hands that guide it. And Bader’s hands were steady.
